Time (Shi Gan)– K Movie 2006

Seh-hee and Ji-woo have dated for two years.  Though in love, Seh-hee begins to feel the passion fade when her lover is sexually excited by the thought of sleeping with another woman.  She leaves one day and goes to the plastic surgeon.  So if you’ve seen it you know what happens… basically I have loved some of Kim Ki-duk’s work.  Kim Ki-duk is the director and has also done 3-Iron & Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall…and Spring.  He is known for quiet deep works and this though a completely different topic and feel does move in that same way.  Amazing imagery along the way and the use of the sculpture garden made me want to quit my job and become a sculptor.  The mask scene still creeps me out and this terrible twisting of love was painful to watch.

On many levels I think I am still processing the film, it is hard to even write about because it is so complex in my mind.

I would recommend this to fans of Kim Ki-duk’s work, but not to those interested in Korean movies.  It is a bit harsh for beginners.  I would give it a 6 out of 10.

As a side question, why is it that in the series male/female relationships are dealt with like it is the 1950’s, but in films the characters are much more promiscuous and lacking the social constructs that are so prevalent in series?
